NEW! Sadie Family Wines 'Twiswind', Swartland, South Africa 2025
When you shuffle a pack of cards, the order in which the cards are then arranged will never have been done before and will never be done again before the universe ends (the likelihood being so small as to be meaningless). In a similar vein, it’s almost equally unlikely that anyone ever has or ever will make a wine that combines the following grape varieties: Vermentino, Picpoul, Marsanne, Grenache Blanc, Cinsault Blanc, Palomino, Chenin Blanc, Grillo, Assyrtiko, Verdelho, Clairette and Semillon. So it’s safe to say that this wine is unique! It has the hallmarks of a classic Cape white blend, but Eben Sadie somehow infuses it with a sense of place, as if the vines had drawn up an essence of the dry, decomposed granite of the Swartland and imparted it into the wine. 13.5% alc. Drink now-2036.
Press review:
Tim Atkin MW: “Planted as recently as 2018 with equal amounts of a dozen different varieties Mediterranean varieties and now some Assyrtiko, this is a wine of place, somehow expressing the soul of the Paardeberg. Fermented and aged in concrete tanks and old foudres, it has top notes of musk, white flowers and oyster shell, pithy focused flavours of lime, lemongrass and cardamom and a salty finish. Drink 2028-2035.” 96 points
