The 2021 vintage of this Soave was bottled in a green Bordeaux bottle (as per the photograph), not in its usual Burgundy bottle, due to a worldwide shortage of glass bottles following the pandemic (something to do with the cost and logistics of running the furnaces). It seems to have caused much consternation among Soave drinkers, slowing sales to such a degree that the shipper called us to say that they had excess stock and offered it to us at a great price if we took a bite out of their inventory. Having already tasted it and loved it, we were more than happy to help. It’s not a magnificent wine, but it’s a really good fridge-door, midweek quaffer made by one of the finest producers in the region. It’s juicy and moreish and skips across the palate briskly with refreshing apple, lime and sliced nectarine flavours. 12.5% alc. Drink now-2025.
